Susie Q Malt Shop is well know throughout NWA for its burgers and shakes. I really like their old sign so I took this shot today.

Storm Over Embassy

We had a storm roll through a few hours ago that really lit up the sky as it was leaving. I took this shot of the remnants of the storm over the Embassy Suites hotel from the parking of the Target store in Rogers, AR.

Peachtree at the Lane

We have some intriguing old buildings in NWA but this is one of my favorites. It is located in downtown Rogers, AR. It has been known by many names but is currently known as Peachtree at the Lane.

From the Rogers Historical Museum:

Built in 1928 as the Lane Hotel for Little Rock owner S.A. Lane, this five-story structure was advertised as the first fireproof building in Arkansas. John Parks Almand designed the Spanish Colonial style building, which cost $150,000 to build. One-time occupants of the Lane included aviator Amelia Earhart, boxer Jack Dempsey, and actor Errol Flynn.

In 1935 Earl Harris of the Harris Bakery bought the building and changed the name to the Harris Hotel, which was known as the “Palace of the Ozarks.” The Orchard Room, added to the back of the hotel around 1939, was a popular restaurant.

From 1948 to 1963 Warren Felker and the Arkansas Hotel Company ran the property as The Hotel Arkansas. In 1967 the Defenders of the Christian Faith bought the building and opened it as The Defender’s Townhouse, beginning the building’s use as a retirement home. In 1977 Joe and Dera Keen bought it and renamed it the Rogers Townhouse. Since 1999 it has been known as the Peachtree at the Lane.

The Other Member of the Family

This is the member of the family that you don’t hear much about. Her name is Skeeter Bean and she is a Miniature Dachshund that weighs in at about 9 lbs. Lizzy and I got her in October 2005.

Jackson is loving this awesome weather because it gives it plenty of time to work on his athletic skills. Today he worked on soccer, baseball, disc golf, volleyball and sprints. I snapped a shot of his baseball that he left laying in the front yard.

I found this old barn while driving on today’s lunch break. It makes for a pretty nice pano even though there wasn’t a cloud in the sky but I can’t really complain about a little sunshine these days.

There is a large field behind my office that has a bunch of junk and a little shack where some hillbillies once lived. I found this rusty old Ford sitting there dreaming of better days.

Crystal Bridges Museum

I went out to the overlook of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art today to check out the progress. I have read about the building and how great it is supposed to be but I wasn’t expecting anything like what I saw. This thing is huge and looks to have an awesome design and layout. I will definitely be there once it is completed.

Photoshop.com released their free iPhone app a few days. It is a pretty impressive app and I highly recommend that you download it if you own an iPhone and take pictures with it. You can read all about it here.

Homer, AK has a pretty good size boat harbor. I enjoyed strolling through checking out all of the different boats. I met this nice guy at the end of the harbor where he was just laying in the sun while his owner worked on the boat.

It’s BBB Time Again

It is the 10th year for Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville. I plan on going down there at some point in the next few days but I did notice that the West Coast Choppers truck was parked right down the street from my office so I snapped a picture.

We had a nice size spider take up residence in our garden recently. He had a big web between the tomatoes and sunflowers that seemed to be very effective at catching bugs.

We came across an old boat yard in Homer, AK that had some really nifty boats that were just worn out.
